Most pairing problems come down to three things: the phone/Wi-Fi being on 5GHz, the device not being in pairing mode, or a temporary hang. Here’s the order that works.
1. Use a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
AZIOT devices connect only on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, not 5GHz. Make sure your phone is on the 2.4GHz band while pairing. See why smart devices need 2.4GHz and Wi-Fi fixes that work.
Quick test that solves many cases: turn on a mobile hotspot from another phone (2.4GHz) and pair the device to that hotspot. If it pairs to the hotspot but not your home Wi-Fi, the problem is your router/band — not the device.
2. Put the device into pairing mode
- Retrofit smart switch (2/4/8 node): rapidly toggle the connected manual switch ON/OFF about 7–8 times until the indicator blinks fast.
- Smart plug / touch switch: press and hold the button for 5–10 seconds until it blinks fast.
Full steps: how to reset an AZIOT device. In the Smart Life app, choose Add Device and select the fast-blinking mode.
3. If it won’t enter pairing mode / is stuck
If toggling does nothing or the device is in a hang state, switch the main MCB OFF for 10 seconds, then ON, and try step 2 again. This reliably brings a stuck device back into pairing mode.
4. Pair on Wi-Fi mode, not Bluetooth
When adding, choose Wi-Fi pairing so the device stays online when you’re away from home. A device added in Bluetooth-only mode will keep showing offline once your phone is out of range.
5. Still not visible?
- Keep phone, router and device close together during pairing.
- Allow the Smart Life app Location and Local Network permissions.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password carefully (it’s case-sensitive).
Frequently asked questions
Why won’t my AZIOT device pair with the Smart Life app?
The most common reasons are being on a 5GHz network (AZIOT needs 2.4GHz), the device not being in fast-blink pairing mode, or a temporary hang. Switch to 2.4GHz (or test with a mobile hotspot), put the device in pairing mode, and if needed reset the main MCB for 10 seconds.
How do I put an AZIOT retrofit switch into pairing mode?
Rapidly toggle the connected manual switch ON/OFF about 7–8 times until the indicator blinks fast. For a smart plug or touch switch, press and hold the button for 5–10 seconds instead.
It pairs to my hotspot but not my home Wi-Fi. Why?
That means the device is fine and the issue is your home router — usually a 5GHz-only setting, a very crowded network, or the router dropping older devices. Enable a 2.4GHz band and try again.
