2.4GHz vs 5GHz — the difference
- 2.4GHz — longer range, better at passing through walls, ideal for low-data smart devices. This is what AZIOT uses.
- 5GHz — faster speeds but shorter range, best for phones and laptops streaming video. Smart devices don't need it.
How to connect your device to 2.4GHz
- On your phone, open Wi-Fi settings and connect to your 2.4GHz network during setup.
- If your router shows one combined network name for both bands, log in to the router and temporarily separate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands (give them different names), or enable a dedicated 2.4GHz SSID.
- Pair the AZIOT device on the 2.4GHz network. Once added, you can switch your phone back to 5GHz — the device stays on 2.4GHz.
How to tell which band you're on
Many routers name bands like "MyWiFi" (2.4GHz) and "MyWiFi_5G" (5GHz). If you only see one name, your bands are combined — separate them or check your router app for a 2.4GHz option.

My router only shows one Wi-Fi name. What do I do?
Your 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands are combined. Separate them in your router settings (different names) or enable a dedicated 2.4GHz SSID, then pair the device.
Will my device stay connected if my phone uses 5GHz?
Yes. Once the device is paired on 2.4GHz it stays there. Your phone can use either band afterwards.
Is 2.4GHz slower for my smart devices?
No. Smart switches and plugs send tiny amounts of data, so 2.4GHz is more than fast enough and more reliable at range.
