“Device dead” is the single most common issue we hear — and in a large share of cases the device is fine and just needs a proper power reset or a wiring correction. Please work through these steps before uninstalling the device or requesting a service, as it saves you days of shipping time.
1. Power-reset from the main MCB (fixes most cases)
- Switch OFF your home’s main MCB (the mains breaker) for a full 10 seconds.
- Switch it back ON.
- Wait 15–20 seconds and check if the device responds (indicator light, touch, or manual switch).
This clears a ‘hang’ state that can make a device appear completely dead. In our support logs, many “dead” devices start working again right after this step.
2. Check the incoming power & wiring
- Confirm the device is getting Live and Neutral. AZIOT smart switches need a neutral wire to work. A device wired without neutral — or accidentally powered through the neutral line — will behave as dead or faulty.
- Check that the Live (L) and Neutral (N) terminals are firmly seated and the wire tips are properly stripped (no insulation trapped under the terminal).
- If you recently changed a fan/light or did any rewiring, re-verify against the wiring diagram in our installation videos.
3. If only one node / terminal is dead
If the device powers on but one output (node) is not working, first swap the load to a known-good node to confirm it’s the device and not the appliance or that wire. Re-seat the load wire on the affected terminal. If a single node still gives no output after a power reset, it likely needs service (see warranty below).
4. Try a factory reset
If it powers up but misbehaves, do a factory reset and re-add it in the Smart Life app.
When it really does need service
If the device stays completely dead after a main-MCB reset and confirmed Live+Neutral wiring, it may need repair or replacement. Keep a short video of the issue ready (it speeds up inspection) and your invoice, then start a warranty claim.
Frequently asked questions
My AZIOT switch suddenly went dead — what’s the first thing to try?
Switch your home’s main MCB OFF for 10 seconds and back ON. This power reset clears a hang state and revives most “dead” AZIOT devices. If it stays dead, check that the device has both Live and Neutral connected.
Do AZIOT smart switches need a neutral wire?
Yes. AZIOT retrofit smart switches require a neutral wire to operate. A missing neutral, or power taken through the neutral line by mistake, is a common reason a device appears dead or faulty.
Only one button/node on my switch stopped working. Is the whole device faulty?
Not necessarily. Move the load to another node to confirm, and re-seat the wire on the affected terminal. If that single node still gives no output after a power reset, it needs service while the rest of the device keeps working.
