If you've shopped for a smart switch board in India, you've seen sizes listed as 2, 4, 6, or 8 module — and it's not always obvious what that means or which one you need. This guide clears it up so you order the right size the first time. Browse the full modular smart plate range as you read.
What Is a "Module"?
In Indian modular switchboards, a module is the standard unit of width that one switch, socket, or fan controller occupies. A plate's size — 2M, 4M, 6M, 8M — tells you how many module slots it holds. So an 8 module board fits roughly eight standard switch positions (or a mix of switches and sockets). Smart modular boards work the same way, but each touch position is app- and voice-controllable.
How Many Modules Do You Actually Need?
Count what each board controls in that spot — every light, fan, geyser, or socket is one position. Add one spare for future use. As a rough room-by-room guide:
- 2 Module — a single point: one light + one socket, or a bedside board. Smallest footprint.
- 4 Module — a typical bedroom: 2–3 lights/fan plus a socket.
- 6 Module — a living room or kitchen with several lights, a fan, and sockets.
- 8 Module — a main hall or master bedroom controlling many lights, fan, AC point, and sockets from one board. The AZIOT 8 Module Smart Plate combines 4 touch switches, 2 switches, a fan touch, and a socket.
Smart Board vs Smart Retrofit Switch
You have two ways to go smart:
- Full modular smart board — replaces the whole plate for a clean, uniform touch look. Best for new homes or full-room renovations.
- Retrofit smart switch — a small module hidden behind your existing board, keeping your current switches. Best when you don't want to change the look. Learn how in converting old switchboards into smart switchboards.
What to Check Before Buying
- Count your load points in each location and add one spare module.
- Check amperage — fans and lights are fine on standard touch points; geysers/ACs need a higher-rated point.
- Match the wall box — make sure your existing back box fits the module size (or plan to upgrade it).
- Pick a finish — AZIOT plates come in white and black to match your interiors.
